GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP

Ground source heat pumps are more efficient then air source heat pumps as they harness the grounds natural energy. Making them cheaper to run. Ground source heat pumps also work well with underfloor heating and low temperature radiators.

WHAT IT IS?

Ground source heat pump is a low carbon heating system which works differently to a boiler. Instead of burning fossil fuel it uses ground loops to extract heat that is stored deep down in the earth or a few metres under your lawn. Then transfers this heat from the ground to heat your home via space heating system and hot water.
Due to the fact that the system runs cooler than a conventional gas boiler. The heating system works more effectively with underfloor heating and larger radiators to distribute the heat more effectively. Because of the lower temperature an auto boost kit is required to raise the temperature of the stored hot water to prevent legionella once a week.

HOW IT WORKS?

Using pipe work berried either horizontally, vertical or a lake. We extract the heat from the earth as heat is naturally drawn from warmer to colder areas, the heat from the ground is transferred to the pipes, warming the liquid inside.
This heat is then pumped through an evaporator which is filled with a refrigerant liquid that turns into a gas at very low temperatures. This liquid then goes into a compressor. When the refrigerant liquid is compressed it turns into a gas which producing heat.
The refrigerant gas then goes to a condenser which compress the gas more creating even more heat. The hot refrigerant gas then runs through a heat exchanger were the refrigerant transfers it heat to the heating system and hot water for the home.
The refrigerant gas with the heat extracted from it then turns back into a liquid state. The refrigerant liquid the goes back through the evaporator for the process to be repeated all over again.

From 1st April 2022 for a period of five years, the installation of certain energy saving materials – including air source heat pumps – will attract zero-rate VAT.

STATS

Using the grant systems they run a refrigerant gas called R32. Which has significantly lower global warming potential compared to traditional refrigerants.

The Grant Aerona3 R32 range are cleaner and more eco- friendly while being incredibly effective with efficiency rating of A+++.

Depending on size of heat pump and flow temperature we can establish an efficient output of 5.19kw to 3.30kw for every 1kw of power the source pump uses. Making it a very efficient source of heating.

We are a Grant credited installers. Which enables us to offer an extended 7 year guarantee and your Grant air source heat pump.
